Words of Wisdom… Here are a couple of sayings I found that are consistent with “life experience.”
Our bravest and best lessons are not learned through success but through misadventure
– Amos Bronson Alcott
I love this quote so much because it reinforces a principle that I have had to learn repeatedly through my life. And that is that I have always learned more through my mistakes than I have through my successes.
And not only have I learned more through failures, I have learned “better.” By that, I mean that the lessons that I have learned through failure stick with me better than the ones from successes. I seem to forget the lessons that come from success because I don’t dwell on them. I just think I did a really good job on that project!
When I’ve made a big mistake, that really hurts, the lesson is almost never forgotten. I think about my big mistakes for weeks and weeks, and therefore, I learn.
Patience is a minor form of despair, disguised as a virtue – Ambrose Bierce
I recall when I was a child that my mother always told me “patience is a virtue.”
Since I was a bit of a smart ass, I usually replied, that it was a virtue that I do not have.
I wish I had the quote from Mr. Bierce back then, because I do believe most people who are “being patient” are actually in despair, wondering if what they are being patient for is really ever going to happen.
Both sayings are applicable to Digital Marketing. Mistakes are easy to make-but also easy to learn from as one gets detailed data that usually leads to learning. And patience is required to effectively build audiences….even if waiting for success is a “minor form of despair.”
